TaeKwonDo

According to Grand Master Park, TaeKwonDo is the Korean Art of unarmed fighting.  Its earliest roots have been traced back more than 2,000 years!  TaeKwonDo is known in its earliest form as Taek Kyon.  This fighting art has developed over the centuries since its creation into a deadly self defense system and immensely popular international sport that it is today (Black Belt TaeKwonDo, 2000)

Muay Thai

Muay Thai is a hard martial art from Thailand. Muay Thai is referred to as the "Art of Eight Limbs" because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight "points of contact", as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (hands and feet) used in sport-oriented martial arts (Wilkepedia.org).

The art has a long history in Thailand and is the country's national sport. Muay Thai as it is practiced today varies significantly from its ancestor muay boran, such as in its use of gloves similar to those worn in Western boxing (Wilkepedia.org).

Kobudo

The Ancient Art of Weapondry. An Okinawa weapon is a weapon developed from farming tools and employed in the fighting system known as kobudo. The study of the traditional weapons associated with Ancient combat on Okinawa and elsewhere in Asia. Our program consists of learning skills with Ancient weapons such as ; the boken, nunchuka, bo, kama, and the Sai.

The weapons arose due to restrictions placed upon the peasants that meant they could not carry arms. As a result they were defenseless and developed a fighting system around their traditional farming implements. Commonly used farming tools were the Bo Staff, the Nunchaku, Sai, and the Kama.

Poomses and Combos

North Florida Martial Arts teaches a blend of ITF and WTF patterns. The ITF has 24 patterns representing the 24 hours of the day, or the whole of a person's life. There are 10 patterns reaching the first degree black belt. These ten patterns allows the student to move from "beginner" student to “advanced” student.

Each belt color has a meaning and significance in the students training.  When all colors, white through black stripe, are combined, the black belt is produced representing the combined knowledge of the lower levels in your training.

The poomse is a line of movements based on the traditional ideas involved in the name of each poomse. Practitioners can learn defensive and offensive techniques against an imaginary opponent through practice of poomse from easy to complex patterns.

Through practicing TaeKwonDo poomse, we can apply the techniques of the hand and foot, and the changes of stances, learned from the basic techniques, adaptable to an actual fight. It also provides us with the effects of improving flexibility of body and being skilled in strength control, balance control, breath control, eye control and concentration of spirit, as well as cultivating martial art spirit through its mental discipline.

Please refer to NFMA poomse DVD’s for guidance at each belt level.
